Cow Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional, for extra flavor)

  • 3–4 tablespoons milk (if dough is too dry)

  • Additional granulated sugar for rolling (optional)

Note: I used food coloring, you just need to separate the dough and put food color in 1 of the dough, to make it look like cow spots I rolled 1 color and put little pieces of the other color on to the rolled dough and rolled it a bit more.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. If the dough is too crumbly, add milk one tablespoon at a time until it comes together.

  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls. If desired, roll each ball in granulated sugar.

  7. Place balls on baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass or your hand.

  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Do not overbake.

  9. Allow cookies to cool on the sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely
