How to waffle st

Body

Row 1: Start with Snow Cone 150 chains + 2 for turning chains and fitting the chain around your chest: the ends should almost touch each other without stretching it.

Row 2: Hdc in each st to end. (150)

Row 3 – 6: Ch 2, front post and back post to end.

Now on we will do waffle st’s.

Waffle Stitches

To Start: Ch multiple of 3+2

Row 1: dc in 4 ch from hook and in each st across, turn.

Row 2: ch 2, *fpdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * until the last 2 sts, fpdc in next st, dc in top of ch, turn.

Row 3: ch 2, *dc in next st, fpdc in the next 2 sts, repeat from *until the last 2 sts, dc in next st, dc in top of ch, turn.

Row 4 -?: Rep rows 2 and 3

Row 7 – 50: Waffle Stitches in each st. Do not cut the yarn. Depending on what yarn you use for this project you may not get to row 50. At this point the jacket is only supposed to come up to the middle of your back.

Note: At this point I switched in between my 2 colors, I have a color in both yarns that are the same, so I wait to get to that color after 4 rows and then I change the colors, so it is not noticeable. You can change your colors however you like.

Now we will count out are st’s and divide by 3, So I have 115 st’s divide by 3 is 38.3 which is ok because we will skip some st’s for the arm hole. Now I will count out 30 on both side and st mark them.

Sides

Continue with the waffle st pattern to the st marker turn and continue the pattern until you get about half way up then make sure you decrease on both sides, then continue until it reaches you shoulder. Do the same thing to the other side.

Back part

Skip 8 stitches and start working from there. Work the waffle pattern until you’re 8 stitches away from the other front part.

Continue the waffle pattern until it reaches you shoulder.

Now lay the cardigan flat and fold the two front parts to the middle. With a tapestry needle and yarn, sew the front shoulder parts to the back parts.

Dc around the jacket start at the bottom of the jacket and work your way around the bottom, up and around the neck. Make sure to put 3 dc in the corner and 1 dc for each row. After that you will front post and back post all the way around and you will do this as many times as you need to make the sides the size you need. Once done you will make your button holes by sc around skipping 2 chaining 2 when you want to make a button hole.

Sleeves- Make 2

To start the sleeves, you will need to chain as many as you need and fit the chains around your wrist to see if it fits, make sure it’s not too tight or to lose, I used 33 chains.

Ch 33,

Row 1: 1 dc in each st.

Row 2: Ch 2, fpdc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 st’s, fpdc in next st, repeat to end.

Row 3: Ch 2, 1 dc in next st, 1 fpdc in next 2 st’s, repeat to end.

Row 4: Increase row, Ch 2, 2 dc in next st, follow waffle pattern until you get to last st, 3 dc in last st.

Row 5: Fit the 3 extra dc in with your waffle pattern.

We will go ahead an continue are waffle pattern, we will continue to increase every 4th row until we get up to your shoulder.

Note: I only increased 5 times and it wasn’t up to my shoulder, so I just continued the waffle st pattern without increasing. I stop at 15in.

Now you need to sew the arms on to the jacket.

Hood

Work dc around the neck, staring 2 st’s away from the first button stop once you get back around to the button. Continue with the waffle st pattern until it comes up over your head. You can do more or less rows depending on how tall you are. Now fold the hood inside out and sew together, then turn the hood the right way.  For the edge I did 2 rows of fpdc and bpdc around hood. Finish off.

Pockets- Make 2

Ch 26

Row 1:1 hdc in each st.

Row 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in next st, 1fpdc in next st, repeat to end.

Row 3: Ch 2, 1 hdc in next st, 1 bpdc in next st, repeat end.

Row 4- 15: Repeat rows 2-3.

Sew pockets on to jacket, now enjoy.
